Maarifa ni Ufunguo is proud to present the Fursa kwa Watoto initiative, a community-driven project dedicated to enhancing early childhood education in Moshi district, Kilimanjaro region.
Fursa kwa Watoto (Opportunities for Children) is an initiative in Moshi designed to improve school readiness and learning outcomes for children by building evidence on effective and scalable provision of quality pre-primary education in line with Tanzanian policies and systems.
The ultimate aim of Fursa Kwa Watoto is that every young child has access to quality early learning opportunities that lay a strong foundation for higher learning and lifelong success, and to support Tanzania in achieving the vision of the 2014 Education and Training Policy to build a citizenry that is educated, knowledgeable, skilled and proficient to contribute to national development. Toward this aim, Fursa Kwa Watoto seeks to achieve five related outcomes.
Objective 1: To establish community-led Early Childhood Centres (ECCs) that serve young children in underserved areas.

Objective 5: To support Women’s Economic Groups through seed funding for women’s groups, enabling them to run sustainable businesses that generate income to support the ECCs.

Establishment of Community-Led ECD Ceters
Maarifa ni Ufunguo successfully established 15 Early Childhood Centres managed by local communities, ensuring sustainability and local ownership.
Capacity Building
Maarifa ni Ufunguo supported training for 20 community teachers and caregivers, equipping them with child-centered teaching skills
Model Centre Construction
Maarifa ni Ufunguo constructed and equipped 1 model Early Childhood Centre with relevant facilities to serve as a demonstration and training hub.
Learning Materials Distribution
Maarifa ni Ufunguo purchased and distributed various learning materials to all centres, improving the quality of early childhood education.
Community Mobilization
Maarifa ni Ufunguo engaged over 500 community members in the project area through awareness campaigns emphasizing the importance of early childhood development.
Women’s Economic Empowerment
Maarifa ni Ufunguo formed and trained 20 Women’s Economic Groups in entrepreneurship skills, providing a total of TZS 33 million in seed funding to support their small businesses. The profits generated are used to sustain the centres and community initiatives.
